Personal Accident Insurance for Tree Surgeons & Forestry Contractors

What happens if an injury stops you working?

Personal Accident Insurance

Tree surgery and forestry work are physically demanding trades where even a relatively minor injury can mean time away from work. For many arborists, forestry contractors and self-employed climbers, that can quickly impact income and day-to-day finances.

Personal Accident Insurance is designed to provide financial support if you are unable to work following an accident, helping to ease the pressure while you recover.

At Arborplan, this cover is often arranged alongside existing liability and business insurance policies, but many contractors are unaware it is available.

What can Personal Accident Insurance cover?

Depending on the level of cover selected, policies can include:

  • Weekly benefit payments if you are temporarily unable to work following an accident
  • Lump sum payments for serious injuries such as fractures, loss of limb or permanent disability
  • Hospital benefit of £50 per day for up to 104 days
  • Medical expenses extension included up to the selected limit
  • Optional illness cover extensions available

Cover operates on a 24-hour basis, whether you are working, training, at home or on holiday, subject to policy terms and exclusions.

Worldwide cover is included, excluding certain territories.

Why do contractors take this cover?

Many tree surgeons and forestry contractors rely on being physically fit and able to work. Unlike employed roles with company sick pay, time off can immediately affect earnings.

Recovery periods can also be longer than expected, particularly where climbing, chainsaw work or manual handling is involved.

Personal Accident Insurance can help provide additional financial support during recovery periods when work is not possible.

Real examples of claims paid

Our claims team regularly sees how this type of cover can support clients following injury or illness.

One Arborplan client suffered a hernia injury caused by heavy lifting and was unable to work for 113 days. Their policy paid £5,000 during their recovery period.

Another client was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was unable to work for an extended period. Under an optional illness extension, the policy paid the full 52 weeks of weekly benefit cover.

How much does cover cost?

Policies start from £187 inclusive*.

This example is based on:

  • £100 per week weekly benefit
  • £10,000 lump sum cover for serious injury

Higher limits are available, including up to:

  • £500 per week weekly benefit
  • £50,000 lump sum cover

Premiums and cover levels will depend on individual circumstances and underwriting criteria.
